WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR PROGRAM THUS FAR?
The PEOPLE in the program. They are all different and have distinct purposes for entering this work, and yet all of them have demonstrated a common goal for the advancement of social justice. It's been a remarkable experience to learn and work among such dedicated people with the support of an exceptional staff.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS?
Do not be afraid to ask questions! As a student myself I have always hesitated in asking for help or clarification on information but having the reassurance to ask for help allowed me to become more open and active in supporting others such as myself.
FAVORITE BAY AREA RESTAURANT:
Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen, Brenda’s French Soul Food, Don Pistos, and Platano
I chose USF because each professor is actively engaged in the field of study you're pursuing. After doing extensive research on graduate schools in the Bay Area, it was clear that USF has a clear and strategic investment in each and every student.
What has been the highlight of your program so far?
The highlight of my program so far has been classroom design and assignments that are rooted in human rights-based approaches. The professors in HRE really prioritize a horizontal approach to classroom instruction with a holistic approach to classroom dialogue. I remember when I first noticed that classes were 4 hours long; it took me by surprise. After the first few class meetings, I wish the class was longer because our conversations are so radical, solution-based, and informative.
