Counseling and Psychological Services

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) seeks to assist students in developing greater self-understanding and help resolve problems that interfere with their optimal personal functioning. It is normal to experience adjustment problems, especially during periods of transition.

CAPS provides individual, couple and group counseling for students as well consultation and outreach services to support students’ wellness and success.

Antonio Reza speaking at commencement. My best experience at USF arose out of my worst experience. I say this because I had known two people who were shot and killed on one weekend in my hometown. I held it together as much as I could, but I had a mental breakdown after class. My communication studies professor Eve-Anne Doohan walked with me over to CAPS and sat with me until I got help and until the end of my session. Eve-Anne Doohan is one of the biggest reasons that I didn't hurt myself or drop out. She missed more than one scheduled meeting to be there for me in my time of need. So my worst moment at USF became my best because I felt that I belonged and that someone cared about me.”

—Antonio Reza '18, convicted of a felony as a teenager,
is now a USF graduate on his way to law school.
