# Minor in Mathematics for Educators

## Program Learning Outcomes

**Starting Fall 2018**

Students will demonstrate:

- content knowledge in number theory, algebra, geometry, probability and statistics, and calculus, as these are required to pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers in Mathematics
- competence in at least one mathematical area beyond that required to pass the California Subject Examinations for Teachers in Mathematics, such as the mathematics of digital art, polyhedra in three dimensions, and/or spherical trigonometry
- an ability to communicate mathematics effectively
- an appreciation and enthusiasm for mathematics

20 units

### Foundation Courses: 12 units

- MATH 100 Great Ideas in Mathematics
- MATH 105 Mathematics for Educators
- MATH 107 Calculus for the Liberal Arts

or

MATH 109 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I

### Foundation Courses: 4-8 units

Choose up to two:

- MATH 314 Mathematics Circles
- MATH 395 (Polyhedra and Geodesic Structures)

### Electives

- MATH 101 Elementary Statistics
- MATH 102 Bio-statistics)
- MATH 106 Business Statistics
- MATH 111 Mathematics and Digital Art
