Major and Minors
Major in Communication Studies
As a communication studies major, you'll study different aspects of communication, from social relationships to intercultural interactions to how texts are used to persuade and motivate. The USF communication studies major is flexible. After completing three foundational courses you'll work with a faculty adviser to plan a course of study that fits your personal and professional goals. We offer classes in interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, rhetoric, health communication, and public relations. Our award-winning professors offer courses that incorporate the latest research. Our elective internship class enables you to intern at businesses and organizations throughout the Bay Area.
Minor in Communication Studies
A USF communication studies minor is an excellent complement to almost any major, as it gives you a skill that employers crave: communication. As a communication studies minor, you'll work with a faculty adviser to create a course of study best suited to your personal and professional goals.
Minor in Public Relations
The public relations minor prepares you to become an ethical and socially responsible public relations professional. Our courses develop your skills in critical thinking, research and analytics, strategic planning, writing, and integrated communication. You'll learn to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and various publics, preparing you to become a strategic communication leader.
The entire communication studies department is phenomenal. I have profited greatly from all in every facet of my education and beyond."
