Fletcher Jones Microscopy Center

The Fletcher Jones Microscopy Center is a specialized center of microscopy for student learning and exploration as well as faculty research.

Cutting Edge Technology

The center provides students with access to cutting edge technology in a dedicated research facility. Access to these instruments enhances education as well as student and faculty research. Students who work with these instruments will develop a unique set of highly desirable skills with which to enter the scientific job market or continue on an academic track.

Instruments

CAB lab Microscopy Center's Zeiss LMS700

Zeiss LMS700

The star of the Fletcher Jones Microscopy center, the Zeiss LMS700's confocal scan head allows for the acquisition of high-resolution optical images with depth selectivity, greatly enhancing our understanding of processes on the subcellular level. Hitachi TM3000

Microscopy Center's Hitachi TM3000

Hitachi TM3000

This innovative tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope (SME) allows for detailed analysis of surface topography for virtually any material at an extremely high magnification. It's easily mastered by students to analyze unprepared samples in real-time.

Microscopy Center's BD Accuri C6 Flow Cytometer

BD Accuri C6 Flow Cytometer

This machine allows for rapid analysis of cell samples and provides information on cell morphology, composition of a mixed sample, and expression of surface proteins. It's an excellent instrument for students to train on the theory and application of Flow Cytometry.

Microscopy Center's Zeiss AxioObserver D1

Zeiss AxioObserver D1

This Microscope has been a workhorse for nearly 20 years at USF and has produced images used in a number of publications. The excellent optics allow for analysis and imaging of live and fixed cell samples using bright-field, DIC, and fluorescence.
