Notes & Definitions

Source: Office of Institutional Planning and Analytics (OIRA), Center for Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (CIPE), 2017 May 17.

The data consists of all first-time, full-time student cohorts in the following fall terms (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) reported by October 15 of each Fall semester. The graduation counts/rates were adjusted for allowable exclusions (such as deaths or total and permanent disability; service in the armed forces; service with a foreign aid service of the federal government; or service on official church missions).

First-time student: students who had no previous experience attending any postsecondary institution at the undergraduate level prior to enrolling in USF.

Full-time student: a student who has enrolled for 12 or more semester credits as an undergraduate student.

150% of Normal Time: According to IPEDS, this is “the amount of time necessary for a student to complete all requirements for a degree or certificate according to the institution’s catalog”. At USF, this time consists of 4 years (8 semesters) to complete a bachelor’s degree thereby making 150% of the normal time to graduation or completion 6 years. In other words, the graduation rate calculated here is the percentage rate of students graduating within 6 years of entering USF.

IPEDS Ethnicity: New race/ethnic categories were implemented beginning 2010, which includes Multi-Race (two or more races) and a disaggregation of Asian/Pacific Islander to “Asian” and “Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander”. For this report, the race/ethnic categories align with 2010 classifications

Due to FERPA, counts amassing lower than 10 were replaced with an *.
