Interim Department Chair / Associate Professor

Associate Professor Michael D. Collins is a highly respected academician who brings to USF a wealth of hospitality management experience, current research and a devotion to student success. His research focuses on hospitality revenue management and the electronic distribution and pricing of hotel accommodations. Prior to his career in academia, Dr. Collins was a General Manager for some of the country’s premier hotel operators, including Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Wyndham International, after starting his management career with Marriott Hotels Corporation.

Dr. Collins’ teaching centers on services management, revenue optimization, and hotel operations.  He is committed to high academic standards and goes to great lengths to advise his students and help them succeed in their chosen fields in hospitality management. The Student Affairs Division of the Coastal Carolina University awarded him for his outstanding commitment to student success, and there he also received the Education Freedom Award from the Student Chapter of the NAACP.

Before joining the USF School of Management in 2013, Dr. Collins was an Associate Professor at the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration at Coastal Carolina University, where he also served as Assistant Dean and Director of the Wall Center for Excellence. He serves as an expert witness in cases involving online travel companies and various tax jurisdictions, where he provides professional insight into the relationships between hotels and online travel companies.
