The Kudlick High-Tech Interactive Classroom
The Kudlick interactive classroom is equipped with two plasma screens, an electronic whiteboard, a camera that can capture physical artifacts and project them to the screen, and VCR and DVD capabilities. It is interactive in the sense that the teacher can give a lesson then instruct the students to “try it out” by turning their chairs and using the computers behind them. The computers are behind the students in order to provide the best of all worlds—attention for the instructor when she lectures, but the ability to quickly transform from lecture to hands-on lab instruction. The multi-level set-up also provides ideal sight lines for class discussions.
The classroom was donated by Alfred Chuang, CEO of BEA Systems and an alumnus
of USF. The classroom was named after Alfred’s favorite teacher at USF, former Chair of Computer
Science Micheal Kudlick.
Below, Professor Greg Benson, one of the designers of the classroom, lectures to his Operating Systems class.
