At USF we recognize that dance is a powerfully expressive art form that allows us to move beyond ourselves toward greater experience and understanding. The goal of the minor is to develop artists who are not only technically competent and versatile, but who have also explored the conceptual, compositional and creative processes underlying dance as an artistic form. Working closely with faculty and peers, students will develop the means to understand the body, stimulate the imagination, challenge the intellect and cultivate a global perspective, all within a vital and inspiring environment.

Study includes the core dance curriculum, technique and performance. The core courses focus on exploration, artistic expression and the social and historical context in which dance is made, building the foundation necessary to create dance in our changing world. Technical training in ballet, modern and jazz is offered, and participation in the USF Dance Ensemble, our performing group, provides the opportunity to work with both professional and student choreographers. Our dance faculty is comprised of established educators, choreographers and performers, supported by outstanding guest artists and lecturers.

The minor is designed for students who find dance an essential component in life but have chosen a major outside the performing arts. The dance minor can be paired with any field of study, be it business, science, or liberal arts. Of the 128 units required to graduate at USF, 20 units fulfill a minor in dance.
