BretzkeJames T. Bretzke, S.J., Associate Professor–Theology and Religious Studies, published “A New Pentecost for Moral Theology: The Challenge of Inculturation of Ethics” in the summer/fall issue of the Roman Catholic theological journal, Josephinum. He also conducted the following workshops: “Bioethical Challenges for a Brave New World,” and “Conscience and Moral Decision-making” for the Archdiocese of San Francisco; “Why Listen? Why Follow? Hearing God... Making Connections” for USF’s October Fall Fest; and “Critical Life Issues, Catholic Moral Theology: Bioethics, Sexual Ethics, and Marriage” for the Permanent Diaconate Training Program for the Diocese of Sacramento in September.


Connie de la Vega, Professor–Law, was a panelist at the American Civil Liberties Union’s “Bringing International Human Rights Home” October training conference in Atlanta.


Mitchell Friedman, Lecturer–Communication Studies, had his article, “Finding, Securing, and Maintaining Part-Time Teaching Positions in Public Relations,” published in the October book Learning to Teach.


KaiserSusana Kaiser, Assistant Professor–Media Studies and Latin American Studies, attended the September conference, “The Argentine Crisis,” organized by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. She was also invited to respond at a panel discussion on “Struggles for Memory by the Children of the Disappeared.”

KenzigMelissa Kenzig, Coordinator–Student Health Education Program, and Ray Quirolgico, Director–Office of Residence Life, had their article, “Addressing LGBTQ Issues at Catholic Colleges and Universities,” printed in the winter edition of College Health in Action.


SpectorTami Spector, Professor–Chemistry, published “The Molecular Aesthetics of Disease: The Relationship of AIDS to the Scientific Imagination” in the fall issue of HYLE: International Journal for Philosophy of Chemistry; “The Aesthetics of Molecular Representation: From the Constitutive to the Empirical” in the fall issue of Foundations of Chemistry; and “John Dalton and the Aesthetics of Molecular Representation” in the 2003 Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences volume, Chemical Explanations. She also co-curated the online art exhibit, “Chemistry in Art,” which can be viewed at www.hyle.org/art/cia/index.html.


John T. Sullivan, Fletcher Jones Professor–Biology, presented “Malaria: Immunology and Potential Vaccines” in October at the annual meeting of the Northern California American Society for Microbiology in Concord.


Sally Vance-Trembath, Assistant Professor–Theology and Religious Studies, led two sessions on the reception of Vatican II at the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s Fall Fest.
