Senior Survey Says: USF Education Satisfies
This years spring survey of graduating seniors reports 91 percent said they were satisfied with my USF education. Their high satisfaction with their education and instructor interest and accessibility was consistent with 12 previous surveys conducted since 1997 by the Office of Institutional Research.
Of the 406 students who answered the survey, which is issued every spring and fall to seniors around the time of commencement, 82 percent said that individual, ethnic, religious, and other differences were valued very much or somewhat at the university. Asked if their appreciation of such differences had increased while at USF, 67 percent said yes. That number is about the median in overall responses since 1997, which range from 61 to 72 percent of seniors agreeing their sensitivity to diversity increased while at USF.
One multicultural community and individual relationships within that community were the greatest contribution to my personal growth, wrote one School of Education respondent.
In addition, approximately 63 percent of all respondents said their sense of social justice increased as a result of their USF experience. Of those who responded, 32 percent said they participated in volunteer activities as a student and 22 percent said they participated in community service learning.
As to the rating of services and facilities, the library ranked the highest with students, with 75 percent this year rating the library as excellent or good. Other facilities and services that ranked in the top 10 include the registrars office, classroom facilities, the bursars office, and orientation programs. Computer facilities/services increased in popularity, going from a 37 percent approval rating in December 1998 to 58 percent in the current survey.
Weve focused our energies on meeting our students technology needs, said Beth Forest, help desk manager for Information Technology Services. Weve worked hard to keep our labs running and effective. It feels really good that theyve noticed.
