BradyCatherine Brady, Assistant Professor–Master of Fine Arts in Writing, had her short stories produced onstage last month in Los Angeles by The New Short Fiction Series. At the Crossroads Irish Cultural Festival this month, she will participate in a panel on “Memory, Imagination, and Identity,” at the San Francisco Public Library.

Tyrone H. Cannon, Dean–Gleeson Library, is now president of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). In October he was appointed to the Library Board of California by then Gov. Gray Davis. He was the keynote speaker at the Michigan Library Association academic librarians luncheon and was the featured speaker in a December digital video conference on the role of the university library in higher education sponsored by the American Embassy in Kiev, Russia.

GallagherKathileen Gallagher, Associate Professor–Visual and Performing Arts, will receive the California Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance honor award next month at the association’s state conference in Pasadena.

Beverly Vaughn Hock, Adjunct Faculty–School of Education, has been selected for the 2003 Otter Award by the Northern California Children’s Booksellers Association. 

Dorothy Kidd, Assistant Professor–Media Studies, has been invited to DePauw University in Indiana as a visiting scholar at its 30th annual National Undergraduate Honors conference this month.

Jean Molesky-Poz, Assistant Professor–Theology and Religious Studies, had her article,  “The Dawning of Something Ancient, Yet New: Reconciliation and Inculturation in the Guatemalan Highlands,” published in the book Christianity and Native Cultures: Perspectives from Different Regions of the World.

Terence Parr, Assistant Professor–Computer Science, will present his paper, “Enforcing Model-View Separation in Template Engines,” at a conference in New York in May.

PattersonTerence Patterson, Associate Professor–Education, wrote a chapter, “Cognitive-Behavioral Couple Therapy,” in the Handbook of Couple Therapy to be published this spring. He also edited a review of self-help books for the spring issue of The Family Psychologist, bulletin of the American Psychological Association’s division of family psychology.

David Reffkin, Series Producer/Host–KUSF, wrote the foreword for the recent discography, “Cakewalks, Rags and Novelties.” He also released his first CD with the American Ragtime Ensemble.

Cecilia MacDowell Santos, Assistant Professor–Sociology, received a national teaching award from Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and will be featured in the eighth edition of the book to be published in September.

Shalendra D. Sharma, Associate Professor–Politics, submitted two journal articles for publication in May: “Government Intervention or Market Liberalization: The Korean Financial Crisis as a Case of Market Failure” in Progress in Development Studies, and “Financial Crises in Light of the Asian Experience: Some Theoretical Reconsiderations” in Economia Internazionale.

Dayle Smith, Professor–School of Business and Management, was nominated by USF for the nationally recognized Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service Learning. 

Stephen Zunes, Associate Professor–Politics, spoke at the University of California at Riverside in February as part of the UCR-Mellon lecture series, “Abuse of Ideas.” He also spoke at San Diego State as part of a lecture series on contemporary U.S. security strategy, and at Evergreen State College as part of a lecture series on prospects for Israeli-Palestinian peace. His article, “Defending Zionism in a Time of Occupation and Repression,” will appear in the March/April issue of Tikkun magazine.
