Jane Vincent Corbett, Professor and Chair, Adult Health Department–Nursing, gave a six-hour presentation, “Nursing Implications of Laboratory Tests,” at Sutter Medical Center in Roseville Nov. 15 and at UCSF Nov. 20.


Regie Deguzman, Assistant Director–Financial Aid, was promoted from assistant of financial aid, technical support.


Raymond Dennehy, Professor–Philosophy, presented a speech, “The Language of Abortion,” Nov. 9 at the Life Legal Defense Foundation banquet in Oakland.


Alev Efendioglu, Professor–School of Business and Management, is a member of the board of directors of Ameristock Mutual Funds, which was recognized as one of the top 21 mutual funds for 2003 by Bloomberg Financial magazine. The fund is managed by two USF MBA graduates, Nicholas Gerber ’89 and Howard Mah ’88.


Donal Godfrey, S.J., Resident Minister of Gillson Hall–Residence Life, was selected to appear in the 57th edition of Who’s Who in America published next year.


Andrew Goodwin, Professor and Chair–Media Studies, reviewed Adam Phillips’ book, Equals, for the winter issue of the magazine Tricycle.


Andrew Heinze, Professor–History, had his article, “Schizophrenia Americana: Aliens, Alienists and the ‘Personality Shift’ of Twentieth-Century Culture,” published in the journal American Quarterly. He was also invited to contribute a chapter to The Humanities and the Dynamics of Inclusion, 1945-1985, a book based on a conference to be held next year in Cambridge, Mass. under the auspices of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.


Roberta Johnson, Professor–Politics, had her book, Whistleblowing: When It Works—And Why published by Lynne Rienner Publishers in November.


Vamsee Juluri, Assistant Professor–Media Studies, had his article, “Music Television and the Invention of Youth Culture in India,” published in the journal Television and New Media in November.


Melissa Kenzig, Health Coordinator–Student Health Education Program, was nominated for the Bacchus and Gamma adviser of the year award which recognizes individuals dedicated to their student organizations. Kenzig is the adviser of POWER (Peers On Wellness Education and Reality), a club that facilitates discussion of health issues between USF students and community members.


Dorothy Kidd, Assistant Professor–Media Studies, attended the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Conference in October in Shanghai, China. She was a member of the Key Public Participants in Internet Governance delegation. On Oct. 19, she presented papers at the National Lawyers Guild Convention in Pasadena.

Jose Luis Leiva, Lecturer–Visual and Performing Arts, directed a musical, Frida and Diego, detailing the lives of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, which will premiere Dec. 13 at San Francisco City College.


Jack McLean, Service Learning Coordinator–Service Learning Office of the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good, planned and co-facilitated a workshop titled “What's Distinctive about Service Learning at Jesuit Colleges and Universities?” at the first conference of service learning directors from Jesuit colleges and universities. He will also chair the planning committee for the next conference.


Tony Martinez, Adjunct Professor–School of Business and Management, planned and moderated the California 2005 Hispanic Leadership Symposium at USF Oct. 12. Oren Harari, Professor–School of Business and Management, was the keynote speaker. Martinez also planned and moderated a small business roundtable discussion Nov. 8 at the Fort Mason Officer’s Club. He presented “Transcending Leadership: A New Strategy for Latinos” as keynote speaker at the Hispanic-net Awards Banquet Nov. 14 at the Decathlon Club in Santa Clara.


Bill Murray, Professor—Finance, was appointed to the board of directors of Semotus, a publicly held wireless technology service provider located in Los Gatos.


Dean Rader, Assistant Professor–English, had his article, “Word as Weapon: Visual Culture and Contemporary American Indian Poetry,” published in the fall issue of MELUS: Multi-Ethnic Literatures of the United States.


Shalendra D. Sharma, Associate Professor–Politics, had three articles accepted for publication: “China’s Unfinished Reforms: The Looming Crisis in the Banking Sector” in the Journal of Global Financial Markets, “Financial Crises in Light of the Asian Experience: Some Theoretical Reconsiderations,” in Economia Internazionale, and “The IMF and the Argentine Meltdown: What Went Wrong and the Lessons Learnt” in the Lahore Journal of Economics.


John T. Sullivan, Fletcher Jones Professor–Biology, presented a seminar to the Sonoma State University biology department Nov. 12 titled “Molluscan Responses to Tissue Transplants and Parasites.”


Fredel Wiant, Assistant Professor–Rhetoric and Composition, was elected a fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education.


Bruce Wydick, Assistant Professor–Economics, was invited by Princeton University’s economics department to deliver his paper, “Competition and Microfinance,” Dec. 11 at its weekly seminar meeting.


Patty Yancey, Director–Arts and Education Collaborative, developed a new teacher education program in collaboration with Oakland community partners this fall. She is teaching two classes in the program at USF’s Oakland campus this year: “Learning and Teaching” in the fall and “Health Education” in the spring.
