USF Athletes Get WCC Academic Honors
Seventy-six University of San Francisco student athletes were listed in a West Coast Conference honorary roster of 707 athletes who maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) while participating in one of the WCCs 13 competitive sports. The WCC awarded students a gold for a GPA of 3.75 or above, silver for a 3.5 to 3.74, or bronze for a 3.0 to 3.49.
For the 2001-2002 academic year, USF had six gold winners, including basketball player Cory Sauer, a math major; cross-country runner Marcie Cole, who is majoring in philosophy; Kathrin Kroenig, a psychology major and volleyball player; golfer Ryan Muskar, a history major; Kevin Rose, baseball player and biology major; and tennis player Caroline Tweeton, an exercise and sport science major. Fourteen USF students placed in the silver category and 56 students in the bronze. Almost 30% of USF honorees were business majors.
