One VP Appointed, Another Steps Down

Charles Cross, a USF alumnus, has been named USF's vice president for business and finance.

Cross, who earned a bachelor's in economics and an MBA from USF, began his professional career at USF in 1979 as a financial analyst in the budget office and worked his way up to controller in 1986 and associate vice president in 1994.

"The university is grateful to Charlie for his years of service and, most recently, for his generously agreeing to serve in two capacities simultaneously - acting vice president for business and finance and controller," USF President Stephen A. Privett, S.J. said in announcing Cross' appointment. "In that dual capacity, Charlie has earned the confidence and respect of the trustees and the executive officers of the university."

Cross formally assumed the position June 5, after the trustees voted on his appointment as USF's Chief Financial Officer.

Cross said his goal as vice president is to "stabilize and strengthen the financial condition of the university to allow the USF to move forward to meet Fr. Privett's vision."

In other Business and Finance Division changes, Peter Helldoerfer will take on a new role in the division as manager of special projects. Helldoerfer joined the university in 1976 as a cashier and was promoted to assistant bursar in 1982 and to bursar in 1985. In his new role, he will work on a web-based tuition payment program and assist other departments in the division with the implementation and development of new technology systems.

Jordan-Cox to Resign

While the university has gained one vice president, it will lose another. Carmen Jordan-Cox, the vice president for student affairs, has announced her intention to resign on Aug. 31.

"After 14 years as VP, I have decided to undertake some exciting new professional and personal endeavors," she said. "I am very grateful for the many professional opportunities I have been afforded as vice president at USF and to be a part of the leadership team that helped USF grow and prosper into the very fine institution that it is today. Most fundamentally, I owe my deepest gratitude to the members of the Student Affairs Division for all that they do."end
