Robert Sapolsky, a professor of biological sciences and neurosciences at Stanford University, spoke to USF faculty, staff, and students about the nature of stress Feb. 28. Sapolsky’s numerous writings include the popular book, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers: A Guide to Stress, Stress-Related Disease and Coping.

His lecture detailed insights about human nature that he has gained from field studies in Africa and research at Stanford University. Sapolsky received the MacArthur Fellowship for revealing how chronic stress accelerates the aging of the brain and impairs memory. He also received the Young Investigator of the Year Award in 1992 as the nation’s outstanding young investigator in the neurosciences.

The talk was sponsored by USF Psi Chi, the psychology department, the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Education, creating community committee, and the ethnic studies certificate program.
