1948 Al Romero was recently honored at the United Irish Cultural Center upon his retirement from 40 years of refereeing for the Northern California Basketball Association.
1950 Young Stewart, MS ’56, and his wife, Eunice, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September. Alfred A. Affinito, JD ’53, was elected the 32nd national president of The Order of Sons of Italy in America in August. The Order of Sons of Italy in America is the oldest and largest national organization of men and women of Italian heritage.
1960 Russell R. Miller has published his fourth book, Spring, in which he recounts a month spent in rural Japan observing spring while living in a home no Westerner had ever visited and that has been in the same family for 600 years. 1962 George Bunnell and his wife, Pamela Bunnell ’63, went on a short-term missionary journey to Kenya where they worked to rehabilitate a second-chance high school for teenagers. They also fenced and built a basketball court for the Little Lambs Orphanage. 1963 Armando F. Flores, MA, retired after 44 years as an educator. He served 33 years as an administrator in the Bellevue Union School District. Flores was dean of Sonoma County superintendents with 28 years of service. This summer he and his wife visited London. Dudley Poston is a sociologist and demographer at Texas A&M University. 1965 Tony Murphy, MA ’70, and his wife, Mariette, celebrated their 40th anniversary in June. They live in East Aurora, N.Y. Murphy is a professor of philosophy at St. Bonaventure University. 1966 Steve Harrison is semi-retired from Lucent Corp. and living in Colorado with his wife, Susanne. 1967 Michael G. Borelli retired in February, and in March welcomed his first grandchild, Riordan Bennett Borelli. 1968 The St. Anthony Foundation honored the University of San Francisco and Lou Giraudo, JD 74, Hon. ’00, and his wife, Suzanne Giraudo, EdD ’89, with the Fr. Alfred Boeddeker Award for their efforts in championing socially responsible and economically accessible education in San Francisco. Robert W. Watson, owner of Hoot Judkins Furniture, was awarded the first Unfinished Furniture Association Distinguished Member Award in recognition of his positive impact on the industry and the association.
1971 Michael Crilly is superintendent of the Jefferson Union High School District and was recently named 2007 Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators of San Mateo and San Francisco counties. 1973 Cathy Carroll, MA ’85, is a new member of the San Francisco Archdiocesan Board of Education. She will serve a five-year term. 1974 Pedro Pablo Echeverria, MBA ’82, has been living in Chile since 1979. Echeverria is general manager at Club De Polo San Cristobal. John D. Maatta has been named chief operating officer of The CW. He oversees the television network’s business operations. Sharon M. Plambeck is the director of marketing for The Magnolia in Millbrae. Formerly, she was director of marketing for Classic Residence by Hyatt in Palo Alto. Michael Taheny married Carol L. Blair of Fair Oaks in April. 1976 Levi Zangai, MA, has been named president of AME University in Monrovia, Liberia. 1977 Dr. Bich Le was in Vietnam this fall teaching nurses at a medical school. 1978 Paul Pastorino, an advertising account manager with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, recently received the 2006 “5 Star” Award from the California Newspaper Advertising Executives Association of Northern California. The award recognizes Pastorino as the year’s top performer in sales among all Northern California newspapers including the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Sacramento Bee. 1979 Connie Cagahastian-Triggiano is executive director of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Chicago. Formerly, she worked in marketing and advertising in the Philippines and has also taught communications management. Carson English, MA, has been named vice president of Cashin Company and manager of the real estate firm’s Palo Alto office. Br. Lawrence Humphrey, MA, is the director of the Office of Mission at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota (Winona), and has been selected as a doctoral candidate at The Catholic University of America. Jessie MacLeod recently published Canary in the Courtroom, her story of being poisoned by a pesticide and the resulting civil action against the pesticide company. Timothy A. Simon, JD ’82, was appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Public Utilities Commission.
1982 Col. Thomas Glodek, EdD, recently published The Advisory Team, a book highlighting untold stories of the Vietnam War. David Keepnews is an associate professor in the School of Nursing at Adelphi University in New York. He also serves as editor of Policy, Politics & Nursing Practice, a peer-reviewed journal focusing on nursing and health policy. Judy C. Miner, EdD, has been appointed president of Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Joseph Warren, a former Newport Beach resident and sea captain, has published a new book, Territorial Drama. Warren and his wife, Greta, have three adult children, Erica, Kim, and Noah. 1984 Bishop John C. Wester, MA, has been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as head of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. 1985 Anita Grier, EdD, was elected president of the City College of San Francisco Board of Trustees. This is her third term as president. Scott True works for the Internal Revenue Service and lives in Miami. 1986 James Hudson, MBA, was appointed chief financial officer for Engineering/Remediation Resources Group in Concord in May. Philip Stathatos and his wife, Lisa, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year. Stathatos owns Classic Garden Products, Inc., an importing company in Los Angeles. He recently completed the MBA program at Claremont Graduate University. 1987 Patricia Costa Tague, MA, lives in Louisville, Ky. with her husband, Michael, and their two children, Max and Sydney. Michael runs his own Internet business. Victoria Wayne, a mother of two and former executive headhunter, recently completed a three-year stay in Iraq, where she held high-level business advisory roles for the country’s reconstruction. She began with the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation, and then she helped oversee a joint U.S. State Department and Department of Defense organization responsible for reconstruction logistics. 1988 Dave Drew is a deputy fire chief in Carson Valley. He was awarded the 2006 Firefighter of the Year Award for his service to the community. Suzanne Olson Wieland lives with her husband in Portola Valley and is vice president at Dodge & Cox Investment Managers in San Francisco. 1989 Wayne Madden, MA, is semi-retired from his teaching position with the Fort McMurray Catholic School District. This fall he is teaching part time at St. Gabriel School. Leigh Markell, MA, is chairperson for weddings and receptions at the historic Sausalito Presbyterian Church.
1990 Damian Bacich has accepted a position as assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages at San Jose State University. He received a PhD in 2005 from UCLA and he and his wife, Kristin, are expecting their first child. Marguerite Carter is in Uganda as a Peace Corps Crisis Corps volunteer. Carter is working with Friends of Christ Revival Ministries Uganda, a nonprofit organization that offers medical care, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness services. Russell M. Jackson, MHR, has joined Safeway Inc. as senior vice president for human resources. Judy O’Rourke, MA, is the new co-principal at Our Lady of Angels School in Burlingame. O’Rourke has previously taught at St. Brendan Elementary in San Francisco and St. Patrick Elementary in Larkspur. She served as principal of St. Patrick for 15 years. 1991 Richard J. Doscher, MPA ’93, has been appointed to the California 911 Advisory Board by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Joe Dugan ’91 and his wife, Jenny (King) Dugan ’94, announce the birth of their second son, Ryan, who was born shortly after USF’s Spring Gala in April. Luis Ramirez won first prize in the radio category at the 11th Annual Human Rights Press Awards in Hong Kong in March for his series "China Unrest," which detailed how government policies, illegal land seizures, and rising pollution are causing increasing turmoil in China. Nick Rosso has been appointed corporate secretary by the Foundation for California Community Colleges Board of Directors. 1992 Tiffany Curran graduated from UCLA’s nurse practitioner program after working at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and several intensive care units at other hospitals. She was married in January 2004 to Mike, and was blessed with a baby boy, Fionan Padraig in December. Tiffany and her family now live in Dana Point. 1993 Paul Haakenson, JD, has been sworn in to his new position as a Marin County Superior Court judge. Gregg Kresge, MS, has been named deputy director of the county Department of Environmental Management in Maui, Ha. Lara Phair and her husband had a son, Maxton Prescott Henderson, in June. Maxton is their second child; they also have a 2-year-old daughter. Gilbert Valadez, EdD, received the 2007-08 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship for studies abroad.
1994 Tanya Falcioni Ammann is enjoying her fifth year living in Tuscany, Italy. 1995 Ricardo Peralta married Lisa Monie-Peralta in October 2006 and they are expecting their first child in March. 1996 Alma Galapon, MA ’02, has been teaching first grade for the Norfolk Public School District, while her husband, Robert Thompson, has been stationed at NAB Little Creek in Virginia. The couple welcomed a daughter, Liliana Jean, in July. Melisa Marin Lindamood recently joined the government affairs team at Johns Hopkins University. She lives in Baltimore with her husband and 1-year-old daughter, Sienna. Chris Paige and Kristen (Muth) Paige ’97 announce the birth of their third child, Samuel Erasmus Paige, who was born in June. Samuel joins sisters Hannah, 6, and Lorelai, 5. 1997 Anne Rimpos will graduate in December from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business with an MBA in finance. Annette Schmeling, RSCJ, EdD, stepped down as associate vice president for student learning at Creighton University to take a new position as vice president for student development and dean of students at the University of Dayton in Ohio. Sonny Tang recently joined the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong as director of security and loss prevention. 1998 Niall Adler was recently named the press officer for USA Baseball. Formerly, he was assistant director of media relations for Long Beach State University. Ely Juared, JD ’03, joined Deloitte as senior consultant for technology media and telecommunications. Geraldine Greiner, MBA, and her husband, Shaw Jorenby, announce the birth of their second child and first son. 1999 Don O’Keefe, MPA, retired in May after 27 years with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office as a captain. During his career, he worked all the major divisions at the Sheriff’s Office, including patrol, detectives, narcotics, and administration. He was appointed police chief for the City of Half Moon Bay in June. Michael J. Quigley recently returned from a year deployment in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He has entered St. Mary’s Seminary and the University in Maryland to begin studies for the Catholic priesthood and Naval chaplaincy.
2000 Erin Byrn is a registered nurse at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. She and her husband, Scott, welcomed a baby boy, Jacob Scott Byrn, in March. Robert Hall recently graduated with a master’s of divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena. Hall accepted a position at Central Peninsula Church in Foster City as community life pastor. He and his wife are expecting their second child this year. Terri Hardesty, MA, is the new assistant to the city manager and the spokesperson for the city of San Rafael. Hardesty worked as a television news reporter and anchor for about 10 years at stations in Sacramento, Reno, and Anchorage. Marlie Palmer and Zach Wiley were married in July in San Francisco. 2001 Janine Clements and her husband, Josh, welcomed a daughter, Paige Louise Clements, in January. Janine is currently working as an English teacher in Dos Palos. Brendan Cosgrove recently completed a master’s in graphic design at California State University, Fullerton. Laura (Morrill) Di Giovine married Michael Anthony Di Giovine in October 2006, at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C. The couple lives in Chicago where Laura works as a publicist for Independent Publishers Group and Michael is pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Chicago. Caitlin Young has been awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Agency for Health Care Research and Quality to pursue a doctorate in health care policy at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management. She is currently working for the Massachusetts state legislature in the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, where she is responsible for researching legislation and tracking the implementation of the state’s landmark health care reform plan. 2002 Dulcinea Grantham, JD, celebrated her marriage to Michael Linscheid in May at the Hill House Inn in Mendocino. David Nzaligo, LLM, joined the University of Tumaini’s Dar Es Salaam College in Tanzania as an assistant lecturer in February. Claudia (Martinez) Portales married Elias Portales in Playa del Carmen, Mexico in May. 2003 Rick (John) Elinski, MA, is a senior consultant working for the U.S. Navy in emergency management. Alex Endo, MA, is the new principal at Our Lady of Mercy Elementary in Daly City. Formerly, he was a physical education teacher and director of athletics at Our Lady of Mercy. Kara-Marie Hack is working in Korea with children in need of medical help. David T. Macknet, MS, is pursuing a doctorate in the philosophy of language at the University of Glasgow. Ramona Pierson, MA, is CEO for an education software development company. 2004 Diane Gleim, MA, is a psychotherapist with a private practice. She and her husband, Tony, live in Santa Rosa. Katrina Wheeler is a journalist for All About Jazz and Jazz Review. She has had the opportunity to interview many prominent recording artists. Paul Lebo passed the CFA Level 1 examination.
