Tom Costello Honored at 2008 Scholarship Award Luncheon

Tom Costello, Associate Professor and Director of the Hospitality Industry Management Program, was the first recipient of the Educator-of-the-Year Award. The September 12th luncheon, at the new InterContinental Hotel in San Francisco, was a chance to learn about the exciting innovations and changes in the Foundation’s approach to identifying and rewarding the future leaders of the hospitality industry.

This year - celebrating its 60th birthday - the Hotel & Restaurant Foundation awarded $192,000 in scholarships to 74 culinary arts and hospitality management students attending City College of San Francisco, University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, Cal Poly Pomona, and San Diego State University.

The featured speaker was Martin Yan, the celebrated host of over 2,000 cooking shows broadcast world-wide. Martin Yan enjoys distinction as a certified Master Chef, a highly respected food consultant, a cooking instructor and a prolific author.
