The University of San Francisco operates two Upward Bound Math and Science programs, that service a total of seven target high schools, in the San Francisco Unified School District: Academy of Arts and Sciences, International Studies Academy, June Jordan, John O'Connell, Mission, Phillip and Sala Burton and Thurgood Marshall.
The programs provides the following:
- The Upward Bound Summer Experience, including a five week residence program and Southern California College Tour
- Instruction in reading, writing, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success in education beyond high school
- Exposure to academic programs and cultural events
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Enrichment
- Academic, financial, or personal counseling
- Tutorial services
- Mentoring programs
- Information on postsecondary education opportunities
- Assistance in completing college entrance and financial aid applications
- Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- Information on the full range of Federal Student Financial Aid programs and benefits
- Guidance and assistance on secondary school reentry or alternative education programs; entry into general educational development programs or postsecondary education
