Worship

Liturgical Ministry

In University Ministry we seek to create an environment in which we worship together, inviting all members of our community to take an active role in that worship. By gathering to pray in public, we mark our time together as sacred and recognize that we are in the presence of our loving God. Our worship nourishes us and challenges us to live our daily lives in accord with the values of the Gospel and the call of Jesus Christ to each individual.

As a Catholic, Jesuit University, we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, the central expression of our faith. We gather as a community to celebrate the Church's sacraments, and to mark significant moments in the life of this university.

Twice each academic year we gather as a community to celebrate God's loving forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Individuals who wish to celebrate this sacrament of Reconciliation ("confession") at other times are invited to do so by approaching a priest through University Ministry, Saint Ignatius Parish or the Jesuit Community at USF. Those who would like to learn more about this sacrament may speak with any university minister.

for more information.

Liturgical Ministries:
How Do You Get Involved?

All members of the University are invited and encouraged to participate as fully as possible in USF's liturgical life by serving in specific liturgical ministries:

Lectors or readers are called forth from the community to proclaim the Word of God.

Eucharistic Ministers are called forth from the community to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful.

Greeters or Ministers of Hospitality help to create a welcoming environment at Mass for all those who come to worship.

Music Ministers help to lead the community in song with their voices and / or instrumental abilities.

Liturgical planners take an active role in planning liturgical celebrations and respond to the community's spirit and needs.
