THe Retention InitiatiVe for Education (THRIvE) Scholars Program

Academic and Enrollment Services is pleased to announce that we are launching a new 4 year pilot program that will help first generation, economically and educationally disadvantaged students excel at USF. A combination of corporate and private donations have made this exciting, important new program possible.

Thrive is individualized support, community building, skill development, leadership, and mentoring.

Services for THRIVE scholars include:

monitoring to make sure scholars are on track to graduate and achieve academic goals
support to help resolve problems and potential barriers to academic success

THRIVE Courses:

-First year: College Success I: Study Strategies and Psychology of Success
-Second Year: College Success II: Career Exploration and Portfolio Preparation
-Fourth Year: Senior capstone course

THRIVE Events:

-Workshop Series to include ‘Financial Management” and “Getting the First Internship”
-Social, Cultural, Athletic and Civic events on and off-campus (tickets provided)
-Group Service opportunities


Academic Support Services and Admissions are in the process of selecting 60 THRIVE scholars who are among the first generation in their families to go to college.  Other criteria used to select scholars include:

  • economic disadvantage (financial aid eligibility)
  • educational disadvantage (school attended,test scores)
  • non-English speaking home
  • indications of additional support needed (disabilities, family background etc.)


Students invited to apply to be THRIVE scholars click here to complete the response form. Submit the form as soon as possible.
