War Memorial Gym Floor Replaced

gym floor

For the first time since War Memorial Gymnasium opened in 1958, the arena has a new hardwood floor.

“It’s sad to see (the old floor) go, but it shows what we are trying to do here as a program,” said Rex Walters, USF men’s basetball head coach. “We’re trying to provide our student-athletes with the best facilities possible. War Memorial Gym is a great place for basketball, a great place for tradition, and the fact that we’re making steps to make our home a better home court excites me.”

Remnants of the original floor are available for purchase. For information, call 415-422-2875 or email

The women’s soccer team placed four student-athletes with gold honors, highlighted by Anika Steig ’09, who was selected as the 2009 valedictorian for the College of Arts and Sciences.
