SAN FRANCISCO (June 11, 2013) - Judith Karshmer, dean of the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Nursing and Health Professions, has been appointed to serve on the San Francisco Health Commission, the governing and policy-making body of the Department of Public Health. San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee will lead a swearing in ceremony for new appointees from the city's various commissions on Wednesday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m., on the Mayor's balcony inside City Hall.
Selected by Mayor Lee, Karshmer will join the seven person commission to assist with its mandate to manage and control the City and County hospitals, monitor and regulate emergency medical services, and all health-related matters pertaining to the preservation, promotion, and protection of San Francisco residents.
"What an honor to appointed to the San Francisco Heath Commission," said Karshmer. "It is a wonderful opportunity to use my background in nursing and health professions' education, as well as my experiences at USF, to serve the citizens of the city and help give voice to innovative approaches that address healthcare concerns and promote health."
As part of her responsibilities on the commission, Karshmer will serve on two committees and one board: the Community & Public Health Committee, the Joint Conference Committee for Laguna Honda Hospital (LHH), and the In-Home Supportive Services (IHHS) Public Authority Governing Board.
