hrDirect, December 2010

Introducing hrDirect

Welcome to hrDirect – USF’s Human Resources electronic newsletter. hrDirect will be published approximately once a month to give you a quick summary of important dates, upcoming HR events, and other HR news.

This month, Employment Services introduces USF’s enhanced job posting system. Benefits discusses open enrollment, contributing to your 403(b) plan and flexible spending accounts. Payroll reminds us of the University’s holiday closure and holiday pay schedule. Healthy USF reminds us that USF is offering the opportunity to earn a $50 credit at the bookstore or Koret. Also, Concern (USF's EAP) is especially valuable this time of year to you and your eligible dependents to help manage work/life balance.

Finally, Merry Christmas and happy holidays from the USF Human Resources Team!

Martha Peugh-Wade
Assistant Vice President
Office of Human Resources

  What's New

The Office of Human Resources presents:

The Office of Human Resources is excited to announce that, starting Thursday, December 16, there will be an enhanced USF Jobs posting system.  This improved system from PeopleAdmin will make it easier for you to find open jobs, apply for jobs, and track the progress of all openings.  If you are a person who is responsible for posting or approving jobs, you will need training to use this upgraded system. More information can be found on our website.

  Open Enrollment Update

Thank you for submitting your open enrollment changes by the deadline on November 19, 2010.  We appreciate your timely submissions.  As a reminder, no changes can be made to your current benefit elections until next open enrollment unless you experience a qualifying life event change.  This does not include contribution changes for 403(b) and Emeriti plans. For questions regarding your benefit plans, please contact Sharon Hom at x2834 or at hom@usfca.edu

  403(b) Plan News for 2011

USF offers the opportunity for you to save money for your retirement through an employee contribution to a 403(b) plan with TIAA-CREF, Fidelity, or VALIC. You can enroll and make changes to the contribution amount throughout the year.  Please see the plan news page for more information on contribution limits, maximizing you contribution in 2010 and other 403(b) plan news.

 Flexible Spending Account Year-End Reminder

If enrolled in a flexible spending account, Benesyst will send you a statement showing any balance  in your medical and/or dependent care account(s).  You may also review account activity by logging into your account at www.benesyst.net or contacting customer service at 1-800-670-7131.  Please remember to remit your reimbursement claim form for eligible expenses by the deadline of March 15, 2011 for 2010 expenses.

Change for 2011

As a reminder, over the counter medication will no longer be reimbursable through the flexible spending accounts after December 31, 2010 unless prescribed by a physician.

University Holiday Closure and Vacation Advance

Are you planning to take extra time this holiday season? Remember that December 23, 24, 29 and 30th are the observed Christmas and New Years Holidays.  December 26, 27, 28 can be taken as paid vacation or unpaid leave for persons hired before June 1st, 2010.  For persons hired June 1st and after, you may obtain a vacation advance by completing and submitting a Vacation Advance Form by Monday December 13th.
