International Application Process

  1. Request information and an application for your program of interest or visit our program web page to first obtain program information.

  2. Submit an application in one of three ways.
  3. Send a copy of your passport with your application.

  4. International student applications must include a foreign address.

  5. If you are currently residing in the US and are not a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, please specify your immigration status on the application.

  6. Download and complete a Certification of Finances form. All international students who need an F-1 Student Visa must show evidence of guaranteed funds to cover their tuition, fees, and living expenses for the first year of study. A bank letter or monthly account statement showing the proper amount of funds (or more) is required. Please make sure that the statement or letter clearly indicates the account holder's name, the currency type, and the account balance. The statement or bank letter is required evidence, but the Certification of Finances form is not (you may choose not to use the form itself).

If these funds are provided by another person, the Certification of Finance form must be signed by the sponsor or the sponsor must sign a letter indicating that he or she will fund the living and education expenses for the student.

  7. Send in supporting documents as required by your program (i.e., sealed transcripts, letters of recommendation, certificate of finance, test scores, statement of purpose, resume, etc.). Submit the application fee of $55. You may pay by credit card when you apply online. In order to expedite your application process, we suggest you gather your supporting documents and submit them with your application.

  8. Official transcripts must be translated into English by an official translator.

  9. Submit an English proficiency test score.

  10. After you submit your application, you will receive an e-mail confirming that it has been received.

  11. Within approximately two weeks, you will receive a USF ID Number and notification of any missing application requirements.

  12. You may check the status of the documents needed to complete your application by going to Application Status. To log in, enter your USF ID and password (you received an email with this information included). If you need to reset your password, click here.

  13. Once the application is complete, the program department will review it.

  14. After the department reviews your complete application, you will be notified of the decision by regular mail. If you are accepted and all of your documents --such as the Certification of Finances -- are in order, an I-20 form will be mailed with your acceptance letter.

  15. If you are accepted and you receive your I-20 form, begin the process of applying for your Student Visa.
