NURS 491 - Cultural and Linguistic Preparation for Healthcare Immersion (1 - 2)

This elective clinical course affords the opportunity to apply knowledge and understanding of the impact of socioeconomic and political influences on the health and well-bing of individuals and communities in a "low resource setting". Students will participate in an immersion learning program in which they will live and work in a culture different from their own. Students will experience first hand the challenges of providing high quality, culturally competent health care in clinical environments with sub optimum resources. Linguistic preparation that will begin in prerequisite course will continue during the immersion thrugh structured lessons in the language of the specific geographical area.
