The 21st century has witnessed rapid economic development of China and a surging interest in Chinese language and culture. The University of San Francisco is uniquely situated on the Pacific Rim and in the center of a city with the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, providing a living laboratory for students to study Chinese language and culture. With an almost 20% Asian student population on campus, USF provides students with an enormous and unrivaled array of academic, linguistic, and cultural experiences of China.
The Chinese program currently offers three years of Chinese language courses and Minor in Chinese Studies. A sequence of structured language courses are designed to help students develop proficiency in Chinese with an emphasis on the balanced development of the basic language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, and at the same time, gain an adequate understanding of Chinese culture and contemporary Chinese society.
