Course Description:
In Telling San
Francisco’s Stories, students will explore different facets of San Francisco to
discover its history, culture, myths and lore. These discoveries will allow
students to select topics and evaluate data for seminar presentations. Areas of
study may include Gold Rush San Francisco, the Earthquake and Fire, the
Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco on film and in the media, contemporary problems
(i.e. homelessness) and possibly others based on student interest. Each area
will be studied by the entire class and provide the source for diverse classroom
presentations by individual seminar participants in order to develop public
speaking and presentation skills. A final project will entail group work.
