The San Francisco Bay Area Burmese Community Meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at the University of San Francisco
Nobel Peace Laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, renowned Burmese opposition leader and chairperson of the National League for Democracy in Burma, will reunite with the Burmese community of the Bay Area at the University of San Francisco on Saturday, September 29. Suu Kyi will receive an honorary doctorate from the University during this community meeting.
Suu Kyi lived under house arrest for 15 years, bringing international attention to her country’s struggle for democracy and the ruling military junta.
USF is honored to serve as the home for this event working in partnership with the San Francisco Bay Area Burmese community to shine a ray of light on Burma at this pivotal moment in its history. This is the San Francisco Bay Area Burmese community's moment to at long last reunite with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi after her many years of detention.
