Becoming a Visiting Student

USF welcomes visiting students to attend classes without being formally admitted as degree-seeking students. Visiting students may take up to eight semester credits, or two classes, and must reapply for visiting student status each enrollment period. Completed course work taken by visiting students may not count toward a USF degree without formal acceptance to the University.

Below are the steps you need to take to become a Visiting Student:

1. Find out what classes are available

Search for classes on the Class Schedule and Final Exam page. Click on the "Search for Courses Here." Select Term from dropdown box and submit. Choose the Subject and click on Class Search at the bottom.

Enrollment limits and restrictions or prerequisites can be viewed by clicking on the class title.

Undergraduate courses (000-499):
Approval from the department is not required.
However, if a course has prerequisites or restrictions, contact the department to request an override.

Graduate courses (500-799):
Please contact the appropriate Graduate Program Director to obtain permission to take a graduate level course.

2. Apply

First check Application Dates and Deadlines for the appropriate semester, then apply as a visiting student.

After submitting your application, you will receive admission by email within a couple days. Your login for online registration will be within that email.

3. Register

Visiting students who wish to enroll in undergraduate classes may register online through USFconnect or in person at the One Stop Office located in Lone Mountain Room 251.  Click for instructions on how to register online.

4. Pay

USF accepts these Methods of Payment. A Payment Plan is also available. Payment can also be made with a check in person at the One Stop Office. If you register for class after the payment due date, you must be prepared to pay the balance due at the time of registration. USF does not accept credit cards. For complete instructions please visit http://www.usfca.edu/tuition/.

International Visiting Students

Non-U.S. citizens are welcome as Visiting Students, however I-20 forms cannot be issued to visiting students. Click here to see if your United States visa type is eligible.

Credit Toward a USF Degree

If visiting students apply to USF degree programs after they have taken classes as visiting students, formal permission must be obtained from the dean or director of the degree program to which the student applies before credits obtained as visiting students will be applied toward a USF degree.

Visiting students born after 1957 must submit proof of immunization to:
