The journal provides Catholic school ministers at all levels and from multiple forums with a document that helps them create a new vision of Catholic education by viewing topics from interdisciplinary perspectives.

It aims to support the positive contributions of Catholic education and challenges educators to rethink positions based on research of their own institutions and unique traditions.

Mission Statement

  • To present selected research studies that relate to the purposes and practices of Catholic education.
  • To stimulate discussion exploring important issues that challenge the field, drawing upon the philosophical and theological traditions of Catholic education.
  • To challenge Catholic educators to rethink from an inquiry orientation their positions on the major questions confronting their institutions and their unique traditions.
  • To nourish the ministerial role of educators by exploring the relationship between Christian faith and professional practice.

The Journal of Catholic Education features research from a variety of disciplines on the nature of Catholic education, its past history, present situation and future promise. The Journal also provides a review of relevant current research, and a forum for exchange by scholars and practitioners on matters of substance facing those engaged in Catholic education. Sponsored by four Catholic universities and guided by a nationally recognized advisory board, the Journal seeks to make clearer, deeper, richer and more accessible the many dimensions of the centuries old practice of education in the Catholic tradition.
