Curriculum
The curriculum is split into three phases.
The main learning objectives are the understanding of quantitative
business fundamentals, comparison and contrasting of U.S. business
practices with other commerce models, application of U.S. accounting
principles, and a survey of the U.S. legal framework specifically
focusing on business law.
Phase I
- Technology: A self-paced, CD-based interactive curriculum will
be used to develop basic business fundamentals in economics, finance,
accounting and statistics. This should be completed prior to visiting
the U.S. Estimated time to complete the CD-based curriculum is 40
hours. An on-line assessment tool will be made available to help
the student know if they have mastered the material.
Phase II
- Class Lectures: Class lectures will build upon Phase I of the
curriculum and will introduce U.S. business principles and practices.
In greater detail, basic financial reporting and finance topics
will be covered. The program will end with a comprehensive introduction
to the U.S. legal system specifically focusing on how the legal
system influences simple and complex business transactions.
Phase III
- Company Site Visits: Supporting Phase and I and II of the curriculum,
students will be provided the opportunity to visit with two U.S.
companies. In preparation for these two visits, the students will
research these companies using many of the tools and techniques
introduced in preparation for their U.S. visit and during their
coursework in the U.S. Wherever possible, we will target companies
that match the background and interest of the class.
Students will learn about the industry,
best practices deployed, management style, financial performance
and technology influence. A student report will integrate student
learning. A class presentation will help the students enhance their
communication skills. An Executive Education program certificate
will be issued upon successful completion of the program.
