Offices and Services

Student Information via the Web

Student Information is accessible through USFconnect, providing convenient access to your academic records, financial aid records, and student account records at all times. To access this system you will need your username and a six-digit PIN. If you do not have a PIN, contact the ITS Help Desk at (415) 422-6668.

Academic Support Services and the Learning & Writing Center

The Office of Academic Support Services offers a variety of services to assist you as you progress through USF. They provide information on placement, academic and graduate admissions testing programs, and can explain University procedures to you. The office is located in the Gleeson Library, Lower Level 20, telephone
(415) 422-6876. If you are a learning disabled student or are having academic difficulty, they can also help you.

The Learning & Writing Center, located in Cowell 227, can assist you with tutoring and other academic support needs. Writing preceptors are also available for all writing needs. They can be reached at (415) 422-6713, or via email at lwc@usfca.edu.

Center for Global Education

The USF Center for Global Education, University Center, Room 404, invites students to explore as early as possible the opportunity for education abroad during their Junior year.  Students may study abroad for a semester or academic year, or for a January or summer term.  Both USF-Sponsored and External Programs are available in many countries of the world. The Center for Global Education provides assistance for choosing a program, submitting applications, facilitating the USF approvals process, as well as providing visa and scholarship information. Counseling and Psychological Services

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) assists students in resolving problems which interfere with their optimal functioning. Students can receive brief individual or couples therapy; those requiring or desiring longer term counseling will be provided with referrals. The cost of services is included as part of the student's tuition and fees. CAPS is staffed by licensed psychologists experienced in working with student concerns. Supervised doctoral interns also provide counseling. Faculty and staff are welcome to use CAPS for a consultation or referral to outside agencies. Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid administers a wide variety of Federal, State, and University-based financial aid. They are also responsible for managing on-campus student employment (both work-study and non-work-study) as well as off-campus work-study employment. Information Technology Services

Information Technology Services (ITS) makes available a variety of computing and network resources for educational purposes. Services provided to students through the campus web portal, USFconnect, include personal email, file storage and sharing, calendar, and group collaboration tools, as well as access to announcements, online library resources, online course tools, and administrative services such as registration and checking grades. Students may post personal web pages on USFfiles. On-campus computer labs provide students with access to software for writing papers, analyzing data, creating presentations, accessing the internet, and more. Students living in residence halls can have their personal computers directly connected to the campus network. USF systems are available off-campus via the internet. ITS provides technical support to the university community in person, by phone, online, and via email. A 24-hour self-service Online Support portal allows students to search for answers to questions and create service tickets at http://support.usfca.edu. In the labs, consultants are available to assist students with problems they encounter using the lab machines. International Student Services

International Student Services promotes a global perspective for the USF community through educational and programmatic outreach while fostering the holistic development of international students/scholars by providing support services and immigration advising.

The International Student Services team works to create a welcoming environment and provide high quality services for international students, scholars, and the University community. Through our programs and services, we encourage all students to develop a global perspective and learn about cultures in addition to their own. We strive to provide our students with skills necessary to become fully integrated members of the USF community and well-prepared citizens of the world.

To fulfill our mission, ISS offers Orientation Programs, Immigration Advising and Document Support, Informational Workshops, Educational Programs, and Advocacy/Training.

International Students Services assists various student groups and hosts educational programming to promote the global mission of the University. Student-centered programs include the International Student Association, the Global Living Community, the International Advisory Council, the International Network Program, and the International Support Program. Koret Health & Recreation Center

The Koret Health & Recreation Center is administered by the Department of Recreational Sports. A variety of recreational programs are offered for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members. All USF students who are fully matriculating and currently registered for classes are eligible to use Koret by presenting their ID at the front desk. Non-matriculating students must pay a fee to use the Koret facilities.

The Intramural program offers competitive play in team and individual sports such as basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, and flag football. Club Sports offer opportunities for sponsored competitions with other clubs and universities. Current Club Sports include fencing, karate, golf, rugby, boxing, and women's soccer.

Outdoor Adventures include group excursions to destinations throughout Northern California. The program provides opportunities to enjoy sailing, hiking, skiing, kayaking, rafting, and rock climbing. During the semester, outdoor adventures are scheduled on weekends.

Koret offers numerous fitness and wellness programs including massage, personal training, swimming lessons, CPR, AED, and first aid training. Our weekly group exercise schedule features our 45 free classes including Pilates mat, cardio kick, yoga, hip hop, spinning, step, body sculpting, Tai Chi, and water aerobics. Cardiovascular alley provides 69 cardiovascular workout stations, and the weight room offers a mix of Cybex, Hammer Strength, Icarian, and free weights. The Koret facility has an indoor Olympic-size pool. Swim programs are offered for all levels and abilities. Improve your technique in our group or private swim lessons or upgrade your fitness by joining the competitive masters swim team. Lap lanes are also available for your personal workouts. Diving boards are open for use on weekends.

Multicultural Student Services

The Office of Multicultural Student Services (MCSS) provides services, programs, resources, and leadership opportunities that contribute to an inclusive campus environment that respects and supports a diversity of cultures and a pluralism of ideas. MCSS develops and implements comprehensive and collaborative diversity initiatives for students, staff, and faculty. MCSS strives to prepare all students for the challenges and rewards of living in a multicultural society through a complimentary program comprised of education, advocacy, coalition building, advising, training, and event coordination.

Ombuds Office

The Ombuds Office is available to students who are having a conflict with an office, department, or faculty member. The role of the Ombudsperson is to help you identify and evaluate the options that exist and are available to address your concern. As a designated confidential, neutral, independent, and informal mechanism, the Ombudsperson assists USF students in discussing and resolving issues. The Ombudsperson can explain policies related to the problem, facilitate communication, bring parties together, and promote responsibility and institutional justice.

The Ombuds Office will not intervene until a student has initiated existing review mechanisms nor does he or she have the authority to make changes or to set aside a law, policy, or administrative decision. The office operates within the established mechanisms for grievances and redress. The Ombudsperson reports to the President of the University. For additional information contact (415) 422-2761.

Priscilla A. Scotlan Career Services Center

The Career Services Center's primary mission is to assist USF students and alumni in developing, evaluating, and effectively implementing their career plans. To fulfill this mission, the Career Services Center provides career counseling, job search preparation, and recruiting activities. Richard A. Gleeson | Charles M. & Nancy A. Geschke Learning Resource Center

The Gleeson Library | Geschke Center is the hub for research and study on campus. Go to the Library's web site (http://www.usfca.edu/library) for links to information on the Library's hours, policies, collections, staff, and services, including Ignacio, the online catalog, and databases covering a wide range of electronic resources. Computers for email and other applications, as well as group study rooms and quiet study areas, are available throughout the building. Student Disability Services

The Office of Disability Related Services works to promote campus-wide awareness of disability and accessibility concerns. Services include:

  • assistance with accommodations;
  • sign language interpreters;
  • individual and group counseling; and
  • access to materials in alternate formats (e.g., audio tape and large print).

All contacts are private and confidential. The Disability Related Services Office is located in Gleeson Library, Lower Level 20. Their phone numbers are (415) 422-2613 (voice/TDD) and (415) 422-2076 (fax). Public Safety issues parking permits for students and guests with permanent and temporary disabilities. A California DMV Placard and USF sticker or parking pass is required to park on campus. The Public Safety Office is located in University Center 310, and their telephone number is (415) 422-4222.

The Office of Academic Support Services offers a variety of services to assist learning disabled students. They are located in the Gleeson Library, Lower Level 20, (415) 422-6876. Students are responsible for reading University policy for students with disabilities found in the Fogcutter Student Handbook (http://www.usfca.edu/fogcutter).

University Center

As a focal point for the campus community, the University Center offers an informal atmosphere for studying, socializing, and general relaxation. The University Center includes the comfortable Parina Lounge, multiple food service locations (The Market, Crossroads, Crossroads Pizza, Jamba Juice), and meeting rooms.

University Ministry

University Ministry is attentive to the individual and collective spiritual life of the University. Rooted in the Roman Catholic faith, University Ministry also affirms the rich diversity of faiths represented at USF. In addition to the full-time staff, fifteen Resident Ministers reside in the six Residence Halls. Programs and services in worship, social justice, retreats, spring break immersion programs, community action activities, Justice Lecture Series, sacramental preparation, and spiritual direction are offered throughout the year. USF Center for the Pacific Rim

The Center for the Pacific Rim (CPR) in the College of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1988 and is located on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean to the west and downtown San Francisco to the east. The Center offers an evening master's degree program in Asia Pacific Studies (MAPS), a graduate certificate in Asia Pacific Studies (CAPS), a concurrrent MBA/MAPS degree with the USF School of Business and Management, a bachelor's degree in Asian Studies, a bachelor's degree in Asian Studies with a Philippine Studies Emphasis, an Asian Studies Minor, and a 4+1 BA/BS-MAPS degree program. The Center includes an interdisciplinary research institute, the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History, the Japan Policy Research Institute (JPRI), and is the home office of the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainability. It also sponsors research and online and print publications; scholarly exchange and a visiting fellows program; and public education about the Pacific Rim through conferences, lectures, and other outreach activities. USF Student Health Clinic

The USF Student Health Clinic is located in St. Mary's Medical Center at 450 Stanyan Street, 2 West, 2nd floor (enter main hospital entrance from either Shrader or Stanyan streets).

Primary care services, those services included without charge, are offered by nurse practitioners who have advanced education in primary health care and work in collaboration with St. Mary's physicians.

The USF Student Health Clinic does not provide birth-control devices or contraceptives. Although there is no charge to visit the clinic, non-primary care services (e.g., emergency-room care, specialist referrals, medication, laboratory tests, x-rays) are the financial responsibility of the student. Specialty clinics are available on an ability-to-pay basis.
