Liyi yu ronghui (From Confrontation to Integration: The Rise of Chinese Christians and the Local Church in China) is a collection of fifteen essays on the inculturation of the Christian faith in China over the last two centuries. Despite its importance to the general history of Christianity in China, the story of Chinese Christians and the indigenized church have been neglected within the research framework of the missionary movement. This study emphasizes local Chinese churches and aims to provide a more balanced portrayal of the historical actors involved, recognizing that the indigenized church is an integral part of the history of Christianity in China. This volume is the result of a two-year project initiated in 2002 by the Center for the Study of East-West Cultural Exchange at Central China Normal University and the Ricci Institute for Chinese-Western Cultural History at the University of San Francisco. This study was the first in a series of projects focused on Christianity and Chinese-Western Cultural History.
