Queues, Lineups, & Queueing Theory

Queueing Theory and Simulation Template Software

Queueing ToolPak 4.0

Authors:  Armann Ingolfsson and Fraser Gallop

Editorial Comments:  Freeware that provides Excel Functions for calculating standard M/M/s and M/M/s/c queueing theory formulas. A significant improvement over template approaches for queueing theory calculations. This has potential to become the standard for queueing calculations in spreadsheets.

Author/Publisher Comments: The Queueing ToolPak (QTP) is a Microsoft Excel add-in consisting of a library of functions that perform basic calculations for waiting line analysis. Once QTP is installed on your computer you can use the functions as you would any other Excel function.  The functions allow integration of queueing performance measures into spreadsheet models without the limitations imposed by templates with fixed input and output areas that are commonly used for analysis of waiting lines. QTP performs exact calculations for M/M/s and M/M/s/c queueing systems and provides approximations for G/G/s queueing systems., in the May-June 1999 issue of Interfaces.

Spreadsheet Queueing Simulation Template Files

Authors:  Armann Ingolfsson and Tom Grossman

Author/Publisher Comments: Freeware Excel templates suitable for simulating queues. Templates contain live graphical representations of queues that provide insights into queue behavior and dynamics. For more information see Graphical Spreadsheet Simulation of Queues in the January 2002 issue of INFORMS Transactions on Education, and Spreadsheet Modeling and Simulation Improves Understanding of Queues, in the May-June 1999 issue of Interfaces.

QTS Software

Publisher:  John Wiley & Sons, Inc

Author/Publisher Comments: A collection of spreadsheet workbooks (Excel and Quattro Pro) that analyze a wide range of queueing models. This is companion software to the textbook "Fundamentals of Queueing Theory" by C.M. Harris and D. Gross. An enhanced version of the workbooks for Excel is now available. Review the readme.txt file for details.
