Student Safety Tips
- Remember - never leave anything of value unattended.
- Keep all valuables in your car out of sight.
- Report any and all thefts immediately with the correct information.
- During all fire alarms, everyone must exit the building.
- Report the destruction of university property.
- Do not prop exit doors open.
- Use caution when dealing with intoxicated persons. (Contact Public Safety and allow them to investigate).
- For your safety, back your vehicle into a parking space whenever possible. It allows you to enter and exit the area in a safe manner.
- Use the Escort service - it's free and it's safe.
- Read the Foghorn to be informed about what is going on in and about campus.
- Whenever you plan on going off campus:
- Take some friends along.
- Let others know where you are going and when you should return.
- Know where you are going prior to your departure.
- Use the ATMs on campus.
- Plan ahead for your safety.
- Refuel your vehicle at a gas station near campus and during daylight hours.
- Avoid carrying purses and other baggage whenever possible.
- Conceal valuables (checkbooks, wallets, and cash) in your room.
- Keep your room locked at all times.
- Have a plan in case emergencies arise.
- You and your vehicle are safer in the parking lots. If you park on the
street, know that you are at risk.
- Know where the Public Safety Office is located.
- Secure your valuables in a locker when using sports facilities.
- Always attempt to park your vehicle in the same general area when off campus.
- Notify Public Safety of burnt-out lights, debris, defective gate mechanisms,
damaged fencing or other problems in parking areas.
- Immediately report suspicious persons or activity around vehicles to
Public Safety. It is important to report all crimes to Public Safety so
appropriate action can be taken. If you don't report crimes we cannot respond to developing patterns.
