In her newly completed Harney third-floor lab, which also doubles as a classroom, Tracy Benning, Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences, works with Bena Rogers on her project for the upper-division course, Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (Geological Information System), offered for the first time in Fall 2003. Each student is required to produce a poster presentation at the end of the term on an environmental topic of their choice. Rogers is looking at the impact of land use on coral reefs in Cuba. Benning helps her display and manipulate a satellite image of the island which will be used to produce a map of land use. Benning has received grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for continued support on ecological research and training programs in Kruger National Park, South Africa. |
