La Raza is a law student organization aimed at promoting the Latino/a voice
in the USF Law Community. La Raza has been an active student organization in
the USF School of Law community for over 20 years. During this time, we have
promoted USF’s School of Law mission of social justice and social equality
by being active in the Bay Area community.
La Raza works on four different levels: community involvement, recruitment
and retention of Latino/a law students, academic excellence, and alumni networking.
Community Involvement
- La Raza promotes various projects throughout the year to support community involvement.
La Raza has been proud to present food and clothing drives for local shelters,
including the Day Labor Program, a division of the La Raza Centro Legal located
in the heart of the Mission District.
- La Raza has also been active in visiting
local high schools and encouraging young students of color to strive for a higher
education. In the past, La Raza has welcomed undergraduate students from all
over the Bay Area and assisted in their law school applications.
Latino/a Law Student Recruitment and Retention
- La Raza is proud to work with the USF School of Law Admissions office in reviewing
student applications.
- La Raza has worked at maintaining a Mentorship Program. This program places
upper division law students with first year law students and helps them in their
transition into the rigors of law school.
Social Events
- Our members understand that working hard must be rewarded with positive and
exciting social adventures. La Raza every year hosts the famous “Party
Bus” This fundraiser brings in Alumni, students, and friends for a memorable
night of dancing.
- La Raza also hosts various dinners and mixers where members are invited to
let off steam, share stories and relax. Our social events include mixers with
other law schools, community agencies and alumni members.
Alumni Networking
- La Raza is currently re-organizing its alumni network. There is excitement
in the air about the links happening between current students and alumni. La
Raza is a student organization proud to have the great support of alumni who
help our members find jobs, pass the bar and become great lawyers. If you are
an almuni visiting our website, please communicate with the current board, so
we can continue to expand our alumni community.
