Outside Scholarships for Transfer and Continuing Students

The Transfer Center has compiled a carefully selected list of local, state and national scholarships that are funded through various private agencies and organizations outside of the University. With a few exceptions, the vast majority of these scholarships are for transfer and currently enrolled undergraduate students. Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship Up to $30,000 Up to 75 January** Highly-selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students; sophomore or a recent graduate (within the last 5 years); min. cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above; plan to transfer to a 4 year college or university to begin studies in fall; demonstrate significant unmet financial need.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships $1,000 to $10,000 more than 325 April** Phi Theta Kappa is an Honors Society with 1,275 chapters at 2 year institutions across the country; students with a min. 3.5 overall GPA are invited to be members; members have access to approx. $37 million in various scholarships; each with different criteria.
PG & E Bright Minds Scholarship Program $2,500 to $30,000 100 February** Currently enrolled undergraduate student or High school senior at least 16 yrs of age, HS graduate or have received GED. Nontraditional students who are returning to school or planning to pursue a post secondary education for the first time are eligible and encouraged to apply; live within PG&E service area; plan to enroll for full-time undergraduate study. Various scholarships with different criteria for each.
Stephanie Brown Cadet Memorial Scholarship
Up to $4,000
Up to 6 Check Website San Francisco bay area resident; college student in good standing or graduating HS senior; significant number of volunteer hours in community service within the last 18 months; min. GPA of 3.0
Leopold Schepp Foundation Scholarship Up to $8,500 200 Check Website US citizen or permanent resident; undergraduate student less than 30 yrs old; min. overall GPA of 3.2; enroll full-time in a four year undergraduate or graduate program; be able to attend a personal interview in NY; applications are accepted until funds are available with no specific deadline.
10,000 Degrees Scholarship $2,500 (ren) 20 March** 20 different scholarships each with different criteria; see website for more information.

Financial Women’s Association of San Francisco’s Scholarship $5,000 10 March** Junior or senior class standing; be enrolled at a San Francisco Bay Area college or university; pursuing a career in finance; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.4 or equivalent; leadership skills, academic honors and communication skills, financial need and community involvement.
Financial Executives International (FEI) Scholarship $4,000 Up to 3 check website Check with the local chapter of FEI in your community as each have different amounts of scholarships; The Northern California/Silicon Valley chapter awards approximately 3 scholarships for accounting and finance students; must be junior or senior in college; excellent grades; demonstrated leadership in one or more activities. Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship $1,000 to $10,000 30 Feb.** Full-time enrolled college student with a declared major or minor in accounting, business administration, finance or criminal justice. Visit website for details.

Advertising, Design and Marketing

LA Grant Foundation Scholarship $5,000 15 Feb** Freshmen, sophomore, junior or non-graduating senior standing; min. 2.75 overall GPA; US Citizen or permanent resident; member of a minority Group: African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or American Indian; full-time student; MUST major in a field of study that has an emphasis on public relations, marketing or advertising or minor in communications with desire to pursue a career in public relations, marketing or advertising; must have at least one year to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded; MUST attend TLF’s career development workshop and awards reception to receive the scholarship; must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support.
World Studio AIGA Scholarship $2,000 to $3,000 Check Website March** US citizen or permanent resident; min. GPA of 2.0, major in advertising, fine arts, graphic design, motion pictures; full-time matriculated students; financial need; although not required, minority status is a significant factor.
EDSF Scholarships $1,000 to $5,000 Multiple May** Academic focus includes document management and graphic communications careers. Several different scholarships each with different criteria.
Marketing EDGE Scholarships $3,000 Multiple May** U.S. citizen or permanent resident; full time enrollment; demonstrated commitment to a career in integrated marketing with two or more courses completed in direct marketing; students with internships focused in these areas will also be considered. At least a “B” GPA; full-time enrollment; U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
National Garden Club $3,500 35 March** Junior/ senior class standing; majoring in environmental studies/science or a field related to horticulture and the environment. US Citizen or permanent legal resident of US. Full-time student status; Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.

Google Scholarships Up to $10,000 Multiple Check Website** Multiple scholarship opportunities with different criteria for each; supports students from underrepresented backgrounds in the CS/technology fields (Hispanic, African American, American Indian, women, students with disabilities, veterans).
Society of Women Engineers $1,000 to $10,000 Aprrox. 200 February** Female majoring in computer science or engineering; sophomore standing or higher; minimum GPA of 3.0; US citizen or permanent resident for some scholarships; various criteria for different scholarships. Hospitality Industry Management

Anthony Narigi Hospitality Scholarship up to $5,000 Up to 5 Check Website** Resident of Monterey County, San Francisco County, Sonoma County, Napa County, Contra Costa County or Santa Clara County; must be currently employed in the hospitality profession or applying or enrolled in an a degree or certificate program designed for the hospitality industry, which includes: hotel / motel; spa; restaurant; winery; must hold a high school diploma with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; must have worked a minimum of 250 hours if currently employed in the hospitality industry or 100 hours if a current student.

Communications and Media Studies

National Academy of Television Scholarship $2,000 - $3,000 6 June** Must have completed at least one year of television or electronic media related studies, attend a college in Northern California (Visalia to the Oregon border), Hawaii, or Reno, Nevada; have at least one remaining year of undergraduate study. National Speech Foundation Scholarship $5,000 4 Check Website** Full-time student; junior or senior class standing, student may be a sophomore, transfer student or in an accelerated learning program, but must be entering or beyond the second half of their undergraduate education by September 15th of the scholarship year. Have a burning desire (as demonstrated through experience and essay) to become professional speakers.

Multiple Oct.** Currently enrolled in a bachelor degree program in California; financial need; community service; be free from any other service obligation; have valid legal presence and ability to work and provide care in the state of California; graduate after January 31, 2014; be willing to work in a medically underserved area for two years.
Tylenol Future Care Scholarship $5,000 to $10,000 40 May** Pursuing a career in the healthcare field; record of community service; residents of the US, Puerto Rico, or the District of Columbia; must have completed at least 1 year of coursework and have one or more years of school remaining. Employees of McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., ISTS, Inc., their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and the families of each are not eligible.
Barbara Rhomberg Excellence in Nursing $1,000 5 Aug ** Non-traditional student who postponed the pursuit of a college degree after high school, or had their college careers interrupted (at least 3 years gap between high school and enrollment in a college or university), and instead entered the workforce, or military or fulfilled a family or non-profit obligation; be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program leading to an associate or bachelors degree.
Kaiser Permanente Deloras Jones RN Scholarship Program $1,000 to $2,000 Varies Check Website ** NOT be an employee or affiliated with Kaiser Permanente; U.S. citizen or permanent resident; enrolled in California BRN-approved program; Meet the minimum GPA requirement in applicable nursing program coursework including at least one clinical nursing course with a clinical rotation (not a lab course) completed; enrolled at an affiliate school in Northern or Southern California during the term for which the award is granted; have a minimum cumulative 2.50 GPA (on a 4.00 scale) for the Affiliate Schools awards, a 3.80 GPA for the Academic Excellence in Pre-licensure awards.
