Kathie Lasater, EdD, RN, ANEF
OHSU School of Nursing, SN-4S
Dr. Kathie Lasater was an early simulation
researcher, exploring the impact of simulation
on students’ development of clinical judgment.
An outcome of her initial research was the
Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric, which was
intended to provide common language for talking
about clinical thinking. Simulation educators
enthusiastically received the rubric as a potential
evaluation instrument. The rubric has been
validated and found reliable in a number of
simulation studies. Her research continues to
focus on development of students’ and practitioners’ clinical judgment in and out of simulation; her
current work aspires to create a more effective
transition from academe to practice, especially in clinical reasoning.
