Admission Requirements

MSN-Clinical Nurse Leader Admission Requirements

Admission to the program is based on an overall appraisal of the applicant's ability to undertake master's study and of their potential contributions to the discipline of nursing as evidence by the following:

  • Copies of unofficial transcripts from colleges/universities attended are accepted at the time of application. Official transcripts will be required upon admission.
  • Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Resume
  • For current nurses (RN to MSN or DNP Only) active unencumbered RN License documentation 
  • A completed application form and fee: www.usfca.edu/graduate
  • TOEFL scores if needed/Certificate of Finance/Copy of Passport (International Students Only)
  •  TEAS or GRE test is NOT required

Pre-requisites to the MSN Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) for the Non-nurse Only

The CNL program for the non-nurse is open to students who have a non-nurse baccalaureate degree (or higher). The following courses or their equivalent are required before entering the program. Unless noted courses can be taken online. These courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better: 

  • Human Anatomy w/ lab (4 units) 
    • Must be taken within last 7 years. Lab must be in person; virtual labs will not be accepted
  • Human Physiology w/ lab (4units
    • Must be taken within last 7 years. Lab must be in person; virtual labs will not be accepted
  • Microbiology w/ lab (4 units) 
    • Must be taken within last 7 years. Lab must be in person; virtual labs will not be accepted
  • General Psychology (3 units)
    • 100 level course of introductory psychology, upper level psychology courses are not accepted
  • Developmental (lifespan) Psychology (3 units) 
    • Must cover the entire lifespan from birth to death
  • Introduction to Sociology or Cultural Anthropology (3 units) 
    • No other Sociology or Anthropology courses accepted. This includes upper level courses
  • Statistics (3 units) 
    • Any statistics course will suffice, including bio, econ, psych, etc.
  • College Composition (3 units)
    • College English writing course
  • Public Speaking (3 units)
    •  Course must be taken in person. We do NOT accept interpersonal/small group communication
  • Nutrition (2 units)
