The University of San Francisco: School of Nursing and Health Professions

Fieldwork Placements

MPH students have the opportunity to gain meaningful real world practice not only in some of the Bay Area’s best public health agencies, but also in health organizations across the nation and the globe. In place of a research-based thesis, our students produce an original graduate project based on the culmination of their classroom learning, a 300-hour fieldwork internship, and a capstone synthesis that demonstrates mastery of the profession.

In preparation for the fieldwork internship, our MPH Program offers:Check out our student projects

  • Fieldwork orientation at the beginning of the program
  • On-going events and seminars
  • Conversations with local leaders and experts from around the world
  • Resume-building and cover letter workshop
  • On-site and on-line fieldwork database
  • Opportunities for meaningful, hands-on work
  • Linkages and partnerships with agencies to develop community service and fieldwork opportunities
  • Internship and career fairs to liaise with recruiters and practitioners in the field
  • Support provided during one-on-one practice advising sessions with internship supervisors
  • Access to domestic and global internships
  • Internship qualified mentors/preceptors
  • Modeling session to new students by their participation in the Public Health Day, which follows an APHA Conference-style with Poster/Oral Presentations made by graduating students.
