New Name for USF Theater
May 14, 2002
(San Francisco)The Ira and Leonore S. Gershwin Theater at the University of San Francisco will be renamed the University of San Francisco Presentation Theater beginning June 1, 2002.
The change is being made made after an amicable and mutually agreeable decision between the Ira and Leonore S. Gershwin Trust and the University. The Trust is seeking a theatre that can offer more commercial bookings than the University can accommodate. The USF Presentation Theatre will continue to be available for commercial bookings of limited duration.
Known for its excellent acoustics and ornate Gothic Revival proscenium, the University of San Francisco Presentation Theater is a 478-seat performing arts venue. It will continue to host widely loved groups such as Lamplighters Music Theatre and the Omni Guitar Series as well as university productions, lectures and literary readings.
Presentation Theater opened in 1930 and was renovated in 1995 through a generous gift by the Ira and Leonore S. Gershwin Trust. The University of San Francisco Presentation Theater is located at 2350 Turk Boulevard, just west of Masonic, in the University's School of Education Building.
