The Vatican
shows support for the St. Ignatius Institute. In a letter dated January
25th, the Congregation for Catholic Education declared its support for
SII and for the leadership of University President Stephen A. Privett,
S.J. and San Francisco Archbishop William Levada.

Archbishop Levada spoke at a new St. Ignatius Institute lecture
series March 5th. The Archbishop was scheduled to inaugurate the lecture
series Sept. 11, 2001 but the talk was postponed after the terrorist attacks.
The series is designed to further the dialogue between faith and culture.

The dedication of Loyola Village is set for March 22 at 2:30 p.m.
There are 136 units in the faculty/staff housing complex. Tenants have
the option of renting or buying.

USF law students helped develop a new website that is receiving
national attention, including The New York Times. www.chillingeffects.org
is designed to give Internet users information about their legal rights.
The collaboration includes law students from Harvard, Stanford, and U.C.
Berkeley.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke to law students March 1 and was awarded
the law schools Marshall Madison Award. His father, Robert F. Kennedy,
spoke at USF in 1968, just months before he was assassinated.

Noted linguist and writer Noam Chomsky is speaking at the university
Monday,
March 18th.

USF and Jackson State University in Mississippi are starting a
student exchange program. Three to five undergraduates will inaugurate
the program this fall. There are few programs in the U.S. offered between
a historically Black college or university like Jackson State and a more
ethnically diverse school like USF.

USFs Graduate School of Management has started an exchange
program with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
in Seoul, South Korea. U.S. students will be matched with a Korean business
executive for two weeks in Asia. Korean students will spend a month at
USF. The School recently signed a similar agreement with the Helia Business
School in Helsinki, Finland.
