Graduation exercises will be held May 18-20. The University expects to graduate 754 students with bachelor's degrees, 547 students with master's degrees, and 44 students with doctoral degrees.

The commencement speaker for the College of Arts and Sciences is journalist Tim Russert. He is the moderator of NBC's Meet the Press, and is a political analyst for both the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw and the Today show. He will speak Friday, May 18, 3 p.m. in St. Ignatius Church.

The University Board of Trustees has approved a plan to expand McLaren Complex, home to the School of Business and Management. The board recommended that the school proceed with detailed plans and cost estimates.

Both the School of Law and the School of Business and Management were recently visited by teams representing their respective accrediting bodies. In both instances, faculty were singled out for their commitment to teaching, scholarship and student support.

The USF Lady Dons captured the 2001 West Coast Conference Golf Championship, and USF Head Coach Sara Range was named WCC Coach of the Year.

The USF baseball team enjoyed an 8-game winning streak, including an impressive 5-4 win over top-ranked Stanford in Palo Alto.

The College of Professional Studies is proving the term "distance learning" this spring. Adjunct faculty member David Komito is teaching his Tibetan Buddhism course online from a hotel cybercafe in Tibet.

In the fall, 22 undergraduates from USF and other American universities will inaugurate the "USF in Budapest" program. The project is jointly sponsored with the Peter Pazmany Catholic University in Budapest.

The end of the MIR space station is also the end of an era for a USF professor. Gene Benton, physics dept., and his research group carried out a number of experiments both inside and on the external surface of MIR to measure radiation in space.
