Fr. Stephen Privett
was inaugurated as the University's 27th president on Nov. 18 in St. Ignatius Church. Mayor Willie Brown and Archbishop William Levada both attended. The inauguration received considerable attention from both the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Examiner.

Winter Commencement — The University will graduate approximately 840 students this month. All ceremonies will be held at St. Ignatius Church on Dec. 15.

12:30 p.m. / Joint ceremony for the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Nursing

3:30 p.m. / Joint ceremony for the School of Business and Management and the School of Education

6:30 p.m. / College of Professional Studies.

"Loyola Village" is the name chosen for the University's new faculty/staff housing project on Anza Street. The first of the 136 units will go on sale this summer.

On-campus housing is available. All students seeking on-campus housing this fall have been accommodated.

The School of Business and Management has founded a new center for venture capital. The center will focus on bringing more entrepreneurial opportunities to students and alumni.

USF Media Matters:

  • USF men's soccer coach Stephen Negoesco received extensive press coverage on his retirement and his achievement of being the winningest soccer coach in U.S. college history. Media hits include: FOX-TV Sports Network, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Examiner, KGO-TV, KPIX-TV, KRON-TV and KTVU-TV.

  • The Kiriyama book prize (co-sponsored by the USF Center for the Pacific Rim) was featured in the November issue of Hemispheres magazine, distributed by United Airlines (see attached).

  • Ange-Marie Hancock, assistant professor of politics, appeared on BayTV's Take Issue with Michael Krasny talking about fallout from the U.S. presidential election.

  • Law professor Paul McKaskle appeared on KRON-TV discussing legal aspects of the U.S. presidential election.

  • Roberta Johnson, professor of politics, and her class were featured on KGO-TV discussing the presidential debates.

  • Herb Kohl, director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and Social Justice, was featured on Bay TV's Take Issue with Michael Krasny talking about school vouchers.

  • Rhonda Magee Andrews, associate professor of law, was quoted on the Associated Press newswire on U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. Reno commented that law schools should be allowed to take race into account when making admissions decisions to help create more diversity in the U.S. legal system.

  • Maureen O'Sullivan, professor of psychology, and her class were interviewed by KGO-TV on their thoughts about adults who choose to become celibate.
