Sara Birnbaum, MBAE, 2010 last April as a volunteer, guest speaker to the USF BPS undergrad Honors Cohort Program on Interviewing Techniques.
Sara Birnbaum, USF MBA for Executives, 2010, recently joined
GE Health and has become a HealthCare Services Account Manager, rising quickly
in a highly competitive field.
Dean Turner and Pat Saxman, both fellow graduates of the USF MBA for
Executives, 2010, were instrumental in recruiting Sara to GE Health, and
offering guidance from within.
Below is a short email interview with Sara:
1. Say a little bit about your new position at GEHealth?
I am a healthcare services account manager. I got the
job because of the networking USF inspired. I was able to form a close relationship with other GE
employees who were my fellow students in my MBAE cohort, and they were able to
help me get this job after graduation from the MBAE program.
I now work with hospitals to suggest solutions to help them
optimize their expenses.
2.
What is HSTP, and what did you graduate from?
The training program for the Health Care Account
Manager is long process. HSTP is the name of our training program. It is very
intense, and at the end New hires present to senior executives before the can
graduate and start their new jobs.
3.
What was your experience of that process?
We had 19 new hires from America and Canada. Out if those 19
new hires, they voted me as the MVP of the class. The mentors I had from
my MBA program, supported me through this training period, and they are the
reason I was able to have such quick success at GE.
If it was
not for the relationships I formed in the MBA program I would not have been
this successful this quickly.
4.
Tell us a little bit about coming out of our MBAE program, what it meant to
you, and how it helped you to get this current position?
There were so many applicants for this job. (There were only
19 new hires in our entire division in the country and Canada.... so this was a
very competitive job.) My fellow MBAE cohort members supported me through the
whole interview process, with tips and tricks on interviewing, resumes, and
follow up. I was able to win a job over people with more experience in this
field because of the coaching from my cohort.
Once I got the job, they continued to support me. The support
I got from professors, administrators, and fellow students in the MBA for
Executives Program at USF was vital to my quick success.
5.
Anything else that you think it would be good to add?
The skills I learned in My USF MBA for Executives are
something I use everyday. It was really the best investment I ever made.
