Dr. Moira Gunn is leading the biotech AGI in England.
Here’s a recent email message from Professor Moira Gunn*, currently leading the USF School of Business’ Academic Global Immersion/biotech trip to London, Cambridge, and Oxford, England
Hello from England -
We recently paid a visit to the offices of the FINANCIAL TIMES, and as a result I and two of our students (Olga Levin, MBA, works at Genentech, and Karim Tahir, MSIS, also at Genentech) were interviewed for the weekly FT science podcast - two podcasts are coming out of it - one features The USF School of Business AGI visit and our biotech program; the other on the situation in the SF Bay area vis-a-vis biotech and what it's like to work in the industry right now. Both podcasts will cite USF and the School of Business and Professional Studies.
Clive Cookson, the Science Editor of the FT, did the interviewing and announced that "he" wanted to take our courses. (let's hope they don't cut that!)
LISTEN TO THE FINANCIAL TIMES PODCAST:
• Regulation and bioscience Jan 11, 2011 - 5:15 pm
• In this week's podcast: We ask how health research can be regulated in a way that protects patients without stifling science and we hear from a group of Californians who have come to learn about bioscience in Britain.
Studio guest is David Gillen, head of international medical affairs at Gilead Sciences.
Also on the show: Moira Gunn, head of biotechnology programmes at the University of San Francisco business school and two of her masters degree students, Olga Levin and Karim Michael Tahir.
Presented by Clive Cookson, with Diana Garnham.
Produced by LJ Filotrani
In other AGI news, Bio-Nano Consulting, which is a joint venture of Imperial College, London, and University College, London, has engaged two of our students for internships - Meredith Weems (MBA, new to Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, just left AstraZeneca, she will be developing their marketing plan) and Karim Tahir (MSIS again, Genentech again, he will be developing a "how to" on managing projects with diverse staff for the scientists at Imperial and University.) A third internship is in the works and not as yet defined.
In still other news, I am meeting with Nuala Moran tomorrow, the UK correspondent for BioWorld, on our biotech programs.
The schedule is expanding, etc. but this is what I thought you would want to know now. It's also clear we may be able to make a very good video of the trip.
Thanks! Moira
