Professor Tony Ribera was recently honored by Landsmen, a San Francisco civic group, for his distinguished contributions to the city of San Francisco. Professor Ribera was formerly Chief of Police under mayor Frank Jordan, and is currently Director of USF School of Business and Professional Studies International Institute of Criminal Justice Leadership, Program Director, Law Enforcement Leadership, and is a professor of Public Administration.

It was a great evening for the former chief who said: "it was a real honor to be recognized by such a distinguished group. And it was was also nice to have relatives, USF colleagues, and members of the SFPD there. The Landsmen are a group of San Francisco attorneys, judges and labor leaders who love this great city and contribute to it in many ways.”

Tony started as a street cop in 1968 — after a stint as a US Army MP in Vietnam — and held upwards of two dozen different positions with the SF police department before he climbed to Chief in 1992. Upon his retirement many documents of praise were received from state and national organizations. He subsequently took his Ph.D degree from Golden Gate University.
