A small group of USF Japanese students, including two of our current MBA students met with the Japanese Consul-General to deliver a check for Japanese relief efforts.

Assistant Professor Shin, of the Sociology department wrote to us to report on the event.

Dear Colleagues,

I am very proud and honored to report to you that Mike Duffy, Dean of The School of Business and Professional Studies, along with Japanese students at USF joined me to meet with the Consul-General of Japan in San Francisco on April 20th. Our students delivered a donation ( of over $2,000) that they had raised over the course of a two-week long fund raising effort on the campus.

Dean Duffy and other faculty members also contributed significantly to the fund. Consulate General Inomata sincerely appreciated the USF students' relief effort to Japan and said that he would like to visit USF to thank all of our students in person one day.

These students bravely manned their donation booth outside in chilly, windy weather and significantly contributed to raising USF’s awareness as well as support for the the victims in Japan. Their self-less dedication truly reflects upon our University's mission. Thus, I am very happy that their effort was officially recognized by the Consul General of Japan.

Respectfully Yours,

Hwaji Shin, Ph.D.
